FAQ - HYLO™, HYLO™Gel and OCUNOX™

What is HYLO™?

HYLO™ is a sterile, phosphate and preservative free solution for ocular use containing 1 mg/ml Sodium Hyaluronate, a citrate buffer, sorbitol and water.

What is the difference between HYLO™ and HYLO™Gel?

HYLO™ Gel contains a higher amount of Sodium Hyaluronate (double as much as HYLO™), which makes it more viscous than HYLO™. HYLO™ Gel are eye drops for the intensive, therapeutic lubrication of the ocular surface in more severe and persistent dry eye sensation including treatment after surgical procedures.

What is HYLO™ used for?

If your eyes feel itchy, gritty, have a burning sensation, tire easily, or if it feels as if you had sand in your eyes, this might be due to changes in the quantity and/or quality of tear film. If you spent a longer time in an air-conditioned room, for example, or after intense computer work the natural tear film that usually covers the eye surface breaks up more quickly. For your eyes to be healthy, the surface needs to be continuously lubricated by a tear film.

HYLO™ are eye drops indicated to improve the lubrication of the eye surface in eyes that are dry, burning or have foreign body sensations due to environmental conditions as well as after ophthalmo-surgical interventions. For rewetting of contact lenses, to minimize dryness.

Sodium Hyaluronate is the sodium salt of hyaluronic acid a substance that is found naturally in the eye and other parts of the body. HYLO™ does not sting, when applied to the eye, but has a gentle, soothing effect. Due to its special physical property it forms a regular, stable, long lasting lubricating film on the eye surface. This film is not easily rinsed off and does not cause blurred vision. HYLO™ provides long-lasting moisture to the surface of the eye to efficaciously support the natural process of healing.

What is OCUNOX™ used for?

OCUNOX™ improves the tear film and protects the surface of the eye.

Due to its particularly smooth texture, OCUNOX™ gently moisturizes your eyes, stabilizes the tear film and prevents tears from evaporating while you sleep. OCUNOX™ contains Vitamin A, a natural component of the tear film, that supports tolerance and helps ensure that the ointment mixes well with available tears to relieve the burning sensation of dry or tired eyes.

OCUNOX™ helps the eyelids slide easily over the surface of the cornea and conjunctiva, keeping the eyelids smooth and preventing crusting around the eye.

When should OCUNOX™ be used?

OCUNOX™ improves the tear film and protects the surface of the eye.

Air conditioning in offices, cars or on airplanes, wind, cold, bright sunshine, poor air quality or cigarette smoke often cause dry or itchy eyes or the sensation of a foreign body irritating the eye. Sustained visual tasks, e.g. computer work, watching TV or night driving, can also cause these symptoms. The use of contact lenses can increase the risk of dry-eye conditions.

OCUNOX™ contains Vitamin A, a natural component of the tear film, that supports tolerance and helps ensure that the ointment mixes well with available tears to relieve the burning sensation of dry or tired eyes.

Because the fatty consistency of the ointment can cause a slight impairment of vision, OCUNOX™ should be applied at bedtime.

OCUNOX™ can prevent discomfort upon opening the eyes in the morning.

Can OCUNOX™ be used after eye surgery?
