FAQ - HYLO®, HYLO®-DUAL, HYLO®GEL,
OCUNOX®, CALMO® Eye Spray,
CALMO® Lid Care, NACLINO™

What is CALMO® Eye Spray?

CALMO® Eye Spray stabilizes the lipid layer of the lacrimal film and regulates and improves the humidification of the eye surface and the eyelids. It can be used in environment related disorders such as dry eyes, strained eyelids, foreign body sensation, and a burning and itching sensation in the eyes. Liposomes and dexpantenol (pro-vitamin B5) moisturize the eye area and provide preventative protection for the skin.

What is the difference between CALMO® Eye Spray and CALMO® Lid Care?

CALMO® Eye Spray is a liposome-based spray which is meant to be sprayed onto closed eyes to stabilize the lipid layer of the tear film thus helping relieve the symptoms associated with evaporative dry eye. CALMO® Lid Care is a fragrance free, paraben free cleansing suspension which is used in the daily care and hygiene of the lashes, eyelids and the eyelid margin. CALMO® Lid Care gently removes ocular debris and makeup. CALMO® Eye Spray comes in a 10 ml spray bottle whereas CALMO® Lid Care comes in a 70 ml glass bottle.

How do I use CALMO® Eye Spray?

We recommend spraying CALMO® Eye Spray 1 – 2 times on the closed eyelids. We don’t recommend spraying it into the open eye or touching the eye surface with the spray head. Keep a distance of approximately 10 cm between the spray head and your eyes when applying for maximal effectiveness. When using eye make-up, CALMO® Eye Spray should ideally be used before applying makeup and after make-up removal. CALMO® Eye Spray can also be used with previously applied make-up. In this case, only one spray should be applied and the distance between the dispenser and the eye should be slightly greater (around 20 cm). CALMO® Eye Spray is typically used between 3 to 4 times per day. For more severe cases, CALMO® Eye Spray may be used more often.

Can I use CALMO® Eye Spray while using other eye medications?

We recommend observing an interval of 10 minutes between the two applications or the interval suggested by the other eye medication if it is longer. CALMO® Eye Spray is particularly effective when used in conjunction with HYLO®, ask your doctor if this treatment plan is optimal for you.

Your bottle of CALMO® Eye Spray should be discarded 6 months after first use. CALMO® Eye Spray should not be used beyond its expiry date.

What is CALMO® Lid Care?

CALMO® Lid Care is a liposomal cleaning solution used in the daily care and hygiene of the lashes, eyelids and the eyelid margin. CALMO® Lid Care gently removes ocular debris and makeup. Due to the absence of fragrances, parabens and other irritants, CALMO® Lid Care is suitable for sensitive skin. Using CALMO® Lid Care as directed is an effective way to keep your eyelids and skin clean and moisturized.

How do I use CALMO® Lid Care?

CALMO® Lid Care should be used twice daily – in the morning and evening, or as indicated by your eye care specialist. To avoid contamination, the dropper should not come into contact with any surfaces, especially not the cotton pad. During daily care and hygiene of the eyelid margin with CALMO® Lid Care, all crusts and deposits should be thoroughly removed. Discard the used cotton pad after cleansing each eyelid. We recommend using a different cotton pad for each eyelid. CALMO® Lid Care should not be applied directly into the eyes. View the instructional video.

HYLO DUAL INTENSE™ is for intensive, therapeutic lubrication of chronically dry eyes. It provides long lasting lubrication of the ocular surface.

How is it different from HYLO®-DUAL?

HYLO DUAL INTENSE™ contains a higher concentration of Sodium Hyaluronate in combination with Ectoine. Will HYLO DUAL INTENSE™ treat inflammation?

HYLO DUAL INTENSE™ is not an anti-inflammatory medication, however Ectoine contains anti-inflammatory properties which provides relief from burning and itching symptoms.

Can I use HYLO DUAL INTENSE™ with my contact lenses?

Due to the viscosity of HYLO DUAL INTENSE™, it is not recommended to instill them while wearing your contact lenses.

Will HYLO DUAL INTENSE™ make my vision blurry?

There may be a temporary blur after instilling the drops because of its viscosity, however it only lasts a few minutes.

Where can I buy HYLO DUAL INTENSE™?

What is HYLO®?

HYLO® is a sterile, preservative-free and phosphate-free solution for ocular use containing 1 mg/ml Sodium Hyaluronate, a citrate buffer, sorbitol and water.

What is the difference between HYLO® and HYLO®GEL?

HYLO®GEL contains a higher concentration of Sodium Hyaluronate (twice as much as HYLO®), which makes it more viscous than HYLO®. HYLO®GEL eye drops are suitable for patients with more severe and persistent dry eye, who require more intensive, therapeutic lubrication of the ocular surface as well as post ocular surgery.

What is HYLO® used for?

If your eyes feel itchy, gritty, have a burning sensation, tire easily, or if it feels as if you had sand in your eyes, this might be due to changes in the quantity and/or quality of tear film. For example, if you spend long periods of time in an air-conditioned room or many hours in front of a computer screen, the natural tear film covering the eye’s surface may break up more rapidly. For your eyes to remain healthy, the surface of the eye needs to be continuously lubricated by a tear film.
HYLO® eye drops are indicated to improve the lubrication of the eye surface. HYLO® is suitable for eyes that are dry, burning or experiencing foreign body sensations due to environmental conditions as well as after ophthalmo-surgical interventions. HYLO® is also suitable for the rewetting of contact lenses, to minimize dryness.

Can HYLO® be used after eye surgery?

Yes, HYLO® can be used after an eye surgery. HYLO® supplies long lasting lubrication to the cornea and conjunctiva so that the physiologic process of healing is optimal.

What is Sodium Hyaluronate?

Sodium Hyaluronate is the sodium salt of hyaluronic acid, a substance that is found naturally in the eye and other parts of the body. HYLO®GEL has a gentle, soothing effect and does not sting, when applied to the eye. Due to its special physical property, it forms a regular, stable, long lasting lubricating film on the surface of the eye. This film is not easily rinsed off and does not cause blurred vision.

Does HYLO® contain any preservatives?

HYLO® is preservative-free and is usually very well tolerated.

Does HYLO® contain any phosphates?

HYLO® is phosphate-free so that complications such as deposits in the cornea are avoided. HYLO® is usually very well tolerated.

What is HYLO®-DUAL?

HYLO®-DUAL is a sterile preservative-free, phosphate-free solution containing 0.5 mg/ml sodium hyaluronate, 20 mg/ml ectoine, a borate buffer and water.

Why use HYLO®-DUAL?
